Man! You guys sure can hustle. The TWC war against Clockworks is going pretty spiffingly if I do say so myself! This is by far and away the highest placing RMR has ever had on TWC, I guess you guys really, really like maps or something. Don’t become complacent, though, it’s only the 8th and Shawn is crafty. Plus I will continue to kick puppies until victory is in the bag. Lots of puppies.

The vote incentive is still the map, <strike>but once I can actually log into TWC again (it appears to be broken right now) it’ll change.</strike> Success! Incentive updated. Sort of. It’s still the map, but in the interests of remaining fresh and competitive, I’ve added a mustache to it. OoooOooOo! Admit it, you’re intrigued.

Guys, guys, IMPORTANT NEWS. Shawn Gaston over at Clockworks has gone and declared TopWebComics war on Red Moon Rising! Agghh! In English that means he’s decided his goal for March is to beat RMR on the TWC Top 100 voting thing. And since I make a point of squashing other people’s dreams, I’m fighting back. Shawn smells, vote for RMR! If you don’t, I will kick a puppy. An honest to god puppy.

He has also declared his fans to be cooler than you guys, which you should absolutely take as a personal insult.

Anyway, you can help the cause by voting daily for RMR over at TWC through this handy link. And what do you get for your troubles?

It’s a maaaaaap!

I finally got around to drawing up a fancy map for the world Red Moon Rising takes place in, and you can only see it by voting. Horrible bribery or generous incentivising? Who cares, maaaaaap.

New vote incentive, some quick sketches I did but never posted anywhere of the good captain from the last chapter. Usually when a named character pops up I try and nail down a half-decent character design since I don’t think it’s one of my strong points. Certainly not enough to wing it, anyway.

Now where would one go about getting a magic glowy necklace thing like that?

And that’s a wrap for chapter 8! Look out for the chapter 9 cover on Monday.

Something sort of amusing I realised with the help of a friend just yesterday was that RMR has almost completely descended into talking heads over the last 20 pages or so. There’s always been quite a lot of talking in the comic and I’m pretty unapologetic about that, but the amount of bust shots recently has just been amusingly ridiculous. It’s as if the world doesn’t exist below the characters’ mid-chest region, which is a sort of funny concept, but not really too workable in the long-term. I guess I’ve just been getting all lazy with the layouts. Sorry about that! Will try harder next chapter.

Some pages are just strangely difficult, and I tried to spend the time getting this one to look good, but it just ended up dragging on and on and on… so screw you, page, up you go. Sorry the time that the page has been going up has become a bit irregular, it’s just been one of those weeks… while I’ve been hitting the updates on time in terms of getting it up before midnight on Monday/Thursday my time, it’s not exactly ideal. fffff

I was on another podcast, so if you want to hear me witter on about Project Wonderful geotargeting and webcomics.com, then it’s your lucky day!

New vote incentive, it’s the “lineart” for this page as well as the character colouring without the lines on top so you can get a bit of an idea of how sloppy the colouring is. Whoo! I thought it might be a bit interesting since I’m getting quite heavily into the whole greyscale painting thing. It’s all relaxing and junk, and still quicker than my previous method. What’s more, the fact that lines are more detailed means that the colouring can slack a bit, so it’s taking even less time now. Bammmm!

Had other obligations for today, so if this had taken half an hour longer I would have just had to drop it and finish it off tomorrow, which would have been completely made of fail. But that didn’t happen, so hooray. I think the establishing shots suffered a bit from the rush, but I’m sure the putrid shades of green totally make up for that. Will reply to comment backlog when I get back, sorry. D:

New vote incentive! I was messing about in Photoshop hoping to paint something I could use for a new set of banners or something, but it didn’t really end up being suited for that. Just another painting, of Adrianna this time. In theory it’s the current style I’m using taken to the next level where there’s a lot more greyscale painting involved before the cel-shading gets slapped on top. Someday, when I figure out how to avoid sleeping entirely, the entire comic could look like this.

Still dicking around with the new style. Somehow it’s ended up being faster than trying to get clean lines, and it’s got the added bonus of giving my painting skills more of a workout, which is cool. Good times, I think.
