Chapter 8 Posts

Page 128

And that’s a wrap for chapter 8! Look out for the chapter 9 cover on Monday.

Something sort of amusing I realised with the help of a friend just yesterday was that RMR has almost completely descended into talking heads over the last 20 pages or so. There’s always been quite a lot of talking in the comic and I’m pretty unapologetic about that, but the amount of bust shots recently has just been amusingly ridiculous. It’s as if the world doesn’t exist below the characters’ mid-chest region, which is a sort of funny concept, but not really too workable in the long-term. I guess I’ve just been getting all lazy with the layouts. Sorry about that! Will try harder next chapter.

Poor Lethe, he’s supposed to be a main character, but I think he’s been in less than ten pages so far.

Some pages are just strangely difficult, and I tried to spend the time getting this one to look good, but it just ended up dragging on and on and on… so screw you, page, up you go. Sorry the time that the page has been going up has become a bit irregular, it’s just been one of those weeks… while I’ve been hitting the updates on time in terms of getting it up before midnight on Monday/Thursday my time, it’s not exactly ideal. fffff

Way to diplomat, Sai. That is how you ambassador good.

I was on another podcast, so if you want to hear me witter on about Project Wonderful geotargeting and webcomics.com, then it’s your lucky day!

New vote incentive, it’s the “lineart” for this page as well as the character colouring without the lines on top so you can get a bit of an idea of how sloppy the colouring is. Whoo! I thought it might be a bit interesting since I’m getting quite heavily into the whole greyscale painting thing. It’s all relaxing and junk, and still quicker than my previous method. What’s more, the fact that lines are more detailed means that the colouring can slack a bit, so it’s taking even less time now. Bammmm!

Phew, really pushing it time-wise with this one. Had other obligations for today, so if this had taken half an hour longer I would have just had to drop it and finish it off tomorrow, which would have been completely made of fail. But that didn’t happen, so hooray. I think the establishing shots suffered a bit from the rush, but I’m sure the putrid shades of green totally make up for that. Will reply to comment backlog when I get back, sorry. D:

Busy with university, sorry about late page times.

New vote incentive! I was messing about in Photoshop hoping to paint something I could use for a new set of banners or something, but it didn’t really end up being suited for that. Just another painting, of Adrianna this time. In theory it’s the current style I’m using taken to the next level where there’s a lot more greyscale painting involved before the cel-shading gets slapped on top. Someday, when I figure out how to avoid sleeping entirely, the entire comic could look like this.

Oh yeahhh, that guy.

Still dicking around with the new style. Somehow it’s ended up being faster than trying to get clean lines, and it’s got the added bonus of giving my painting skills more of a workout, which is cool. Good times, I think.

Sorry for being a bit absent in the comments recently, I’ve been struggling a bit just to keep on top of updates. Halfway through this one I had an idea to snazz up the lineart which involved basically adding greyscale toning to the lineart layer while continuing on as usual with the colouring. You can see what I mean a bit more clearly by looking at lineart by itself here. I think it’s added a level of detail that I’m quite pleased with, though messing about with it was a bit time consuming and delayed the page a bit. Sorry! Still trying to get a buffer going… Improvement, yay/nay?

New vote incentive (finally) – I painted a thing and the yeah I like painting and stuff. It’s a faaaaace.

Wow, this page was so much more hassle than it looks like. I think I spent a total of six hours just trying to figure out the thumbnail for it, which is almost as long as drawing the stupid thing took. That is a lot of time to spend drawing tiny boxes. For some reason I just got a huge mental block on it, so sorry for the delayed update. It was not for lack of trying. D: (Also, I still hate drawing airships.)

In other news, I was interviewed on the TGT Webcomics podcast! It was loads of fun, and also quite interesting. At least, I hope so. Ironically, I spend a lot of time prattling about the importance of updating on time, so if you want to hear me being a giant hypocrite, you won’t want to miss this! Ohhh yeah!

I think I’m forgetting something important, but also it is 4am, so screw it.

Hey guys! Guess what!

Red Moon Rising is one year old today! *party popper*

Ok, so the sketch is terrible, but I didn’t have time to do anything too fancy. Still, seemed like I should do something. Hitting the one year mark is kind of weird, it seems like a lot longer than that in many ways, though it does also feel like yesterday where I would just spend all my time playing video games and vaguely musing about doing a webcomic some day. Overall, I have to say, starting this comic is one of the best things I’ve ever done. Here’s to many more!

Also the Comic Creator’s Alliance donation drive is over now, and it raised over $10,000! You guys are awesome.

And finally, I added a pronunciation guide for my surname to the About page. Loughran is pronounced LOCK-ran. Say it with me. LOCK-ran.
