Art blog is coming along well, it’s pretty much set up apart from a few minor things. I’ll probably make a first post some time over the weekend and link to the blog itself on Monday. Progress!

Also, I’m thinking about starting up a proper art/sketch blog since while the comic is artistically challenging in its own way, I’m not really getting much art done outside of it, which I think is a bit of a shame. Should have more on this front by Friday.

Lots of niggly things to draw in this page – mainly, how does one draw a crude steampunk sniper rifle? By blobbing lots of weird brushes around in Photoshop, as it turns out. I’m sure anyone who knows anything about guns is about to pull me up on what a mess it is, but I did my best, durnit.

Edit: Horatio keeps bugging me about this so here we go, apparently there’s some sort of caption contest going on over here. You guys love captions, right? Right? Right. You guys are all about the captions.

Also, Red Moon Rising recently joined the Webcomic Planet Collective! Hooray.

New vote incentive! It’s an unfinished version of that map I promised at some point last week. It’s a bit dark and hard to read and blodgy right now, but you can sort of tell where places are. I’ll post up the finished thing as soon as it’s done. It’s probably worth noting that this isn’t an all-encompassing world map, just a regional map of the (still fairly large) continent that Red Moon Rising takes place in.

I had a small epiphany about painting backgrounds while working on the first and last panels which involves using the opacity brush settings in Photoshop more fully to get some nice cohesive textures going with a minimal amount of effort. It feels a lot closer to using watercolours (one of my favourite media outside of Photoshop) than I would have expected, and I think I’ll be getting a bit more adventurous with background shots, simply because it’ll be quicker and easier to do that. Hooray! I exercised it a bit in the first panel with a slightly more ambitious viewing angle – the perspective’s probably all over the place, but it’s sort of ok whatever.

In completely unrelated news, new Stargate series! Whoo! I am a giant Stargate nerd, and Universe seems like it might not be a giant pile of crap, which I absolutely approve of.

New vote incentive, it’s some lineart that I did in a livestream quite some time ago that hasn’t actually been posted anywhere. I also coloured it in the same livestream, but I’m hoping to redo it a bit and offer it as a wallpaper at some point, so for now you just get the lineart. Also, it’s a new month so the voting has reset, which means… you should all vote for me lots? *shameless*

Making a small cameo in the second panel as nameless officer #4078 is Greg of The Zombie Hunters since he was at my livestream of this page, and I had not quite gotten around to doing all the character designing I should have done because I am pro like that. So, if you too want a small chance at being a inconsequential, nameless extra, you should probably drop by a stream some time, which I generally announce on my Twitter account.
